Pixy – open source free app to track your moods and emotions

Completely free open source mood tracking app with a little outdated design but lots of features.

Pixy is a rare example among mood tracking apps. Why? First, it’s completely free without any possibility to pay for something. Second, it’s open source! It means that anyone can check its source code and contribute to it. Let’s see what it offers in comparison with the paid competitors.

The main screen shows the calendar with each day painted accordingly to the mood you had at that time. You can also easily filter all the records by tag (like activity or emotion) or a mood you’d like to find. Everything is simple and clear.

By tapping on a day, you can easily add a record. This functionality is pretty typical, you specify your mood level, activities you did, and sleep quality you had.

The only drawback in my opinion is that moods are coded only with colors and not icons. It means that for some people it might not be very easy to recognize the mood on the screen.

Pixy also offers various statistics on your moods. It groups the data by every 2 weeks, month, or the whole year. It shows how your mood changed in the period, which emotions and activities you had etc. The statistics are actually very nice, I would say they can compete with any other app except for Daylio in its premium paid version. Very good work from the developer here!

The statistics for a month or a year are quite similar and provide nice insights:

Among the potential issues of the app is the fact that it stores data locally, so you need to use Export/Import functionality to backup everything. It’s not really convenient in my opinion. It also seems that the app stopped its development a few years ago. That’s why the design is not the most modern, and there are some doubts if it will continue working with the new mobile OS versions.

On the other hand, the app is completely free. And with its wide functionality, I think it’s the best free mood tracking app as of May 2025. So I definitely recommend to check it for everyone who wants to have a full-featured mood tracking application without paying a dime.
